Józef Poniatowski

Hello guys!
Today I’ll describe my favourite Polish general from the time of Napoleonic Wars – Józef Poniatowski. He was born in 1763 in Vienna, Austria.  His father died when he was just a little boy and he was brought up by his  mum with much help from his uncle Stanisław August Poniatowski. When he was 16 years old he joined  the Austrian army. He got promoted very quickly and in 1788 he commanded the war between Austria and Turkey. In 1789 he became a Polish general. After occupation of Poland by Austria, Russia and Germany, he commanded a Polish army unit in Napoleon’s army. He took part in the Battle of Moscow and in the Battle of Leipzig, where he died after his soldiers blew up a bridge which was the only way to escape from  the Germans' attacks.
Poniatowski is my favourite general of the Napoleonic Wars and many people admire him just like Napoleon. I think they had a lot of things in common. They were brave and fought till the end.
