History of my city

Hello everybody!
Today I will describe the history of my city – Warsaw. I hope it’ll be interesting.
Warsaw isn’t a very old city - it got city rights in 1323. During the 14th century Warsaw wasn't an important city, but in 1596 King Zygmunt III Waza decided to change the location of the capital city and Warsaw became great. Every king who was born in Sweden had shorter distance to the country.
In the 16th century Warsaw had a very important role.  The most of councils were here and they made decisions about the most important country matters.
After Kosciuszko’s Uprising in 1794, Warsaw fell under  German occupation. It was freed in 1805 after Napoleon’s attack  on Germany and Russia, but in 1863 Germany started to occupy the city again.
Warsaw was a part of Germany  until 1918 when the First World War finished. Then the city was a capital of Poland until 1939 when the Second World War started. During the wartime the capital city of the General Governorship was Cracow. After the war, Warsaw got back its role and it has been a capital city since that time.
Warsaw is the location of the most important institutions in Poland – the Presidential Palace, Polish Parliament, Senate and all ministries. The most important decisions are made here.
