Today I will describe my favorite singer – Jacek Kaczmarski.
He was born in 1957 in Warsaw. In the 1970s he debuted with his song “Round-up” (Polish – “Obława”) at the Warsaw’s Sing Festival and at the Student’s Song Festival in Krakow .
In 1979 with Przemyslaw Gintrowski and Zbigniew Lapinski, he wrote “Walls” (Polish – “Mury”), which in then became an anthem of “Solidarność*”.
While he was touring in France, the martial law began in Poland. He decided not to come back and went to the USA, Canada, RSA and a lot of other countries. During this time, he did charity concerts and raised money for “Solidarność”.
He come back to Poland in 1990 . The same year he had a tour with Zbigniew Lapinski. They recorded together an album “Live”.
In March 2002 he learnt he had a cancer. He died two years later.
He recorded more than 20 albums. His songs described Polish history and political situation in our country.
I think he was a great singer and everybody should listen to his songs.
