My favorite book

Hello guys!
I don’t know why I love historic books so much. My favorite one is “Trail of hope” by Norman Davies. In this book he describes the history of Polish deportees who created an army in the Soviet Union and then went to Africa and Italy. The soldiers were very important  during the Second World War. The book gives a lot of information about this period. For example, you can learn about the Battle of Tobruk or Monte Casino and the fights with the British 8th Army when the so called Polish Second Corps crossed the Mediterranean to Italy. There are many  interesting descriptions of  soldiers' life and adventures which happened to them. The Author wrote about political situation of the army which was created when the country was under German occupation. They fought  on land, sea and air alongside the allies.
I think everybody who is interested in history must read this book!

Bolesław I the Brave

Hello guys!
Today I’m going to write about my favourite King of Poland – Bolesław Chrobry.
Bolesław I the Brave was born in 967. When he was 6 he went to Germany  because Poland had to confirm the decisions at the great council at Quedlinburg. In 990 he came back to Poland and in 992 he started his commanding career. He supported the Christianity mission to Prussia of Adalbert of Prague (known as Wojciech before consecration). After Wojciech's murder he bought his body and buried him with honours. When in 1000 Otto III came to Poland he organized the Congress of Gniezno. With this event, Poland confirmed its status as a Christianized  country. Otto dreamt about a big empire including Poland, Germany and other European countries. Unfortunately, his plan wasn’t fulfilled because he died in 1003.
I think Bolesław was a great diplomat and a very brave warrior.  In 1025 he became the first King of Poland but just a few months later he died. He is my favourite king because of his intelligence and bravery. Under his ruling, Poland was a great country.

History of my city

Hello everybody!
Today I will describe the history of my city – Warsaw. I hope it’ll be interesting.
Warsaw isn’t a very old city - it got city rights in 1323. During the 14th century Warsaw wasn't an important city, but in 1596 King Zygmunt III Waza decided to change the location of the capital city and Warsaw became great. Every king who was born in Sweden had shorter distance to the country.
In the 16th century Warsaw had a very important role.  The most of councils were here and they made decisions about the most important country matters.
After Kosciuszko’s Uprising in 1794, Warsaw fell under  German occupation. It was freed in 1805 after Napoleon’s attack  on Germany and Russia, but in 1863 Germany started to occupy the city again.
Warsaw was a part of Germany  until 1918 when the First World War finished. Then the city was a capital of Poland until 1939 when the Second World War started. During the wartime the capital city of the General Governorship was Cracow. After the war, Warsaw got back its role and it has been a capital city since that time.
Warsaw is the location of the most important institutions in Poland – the Presidential Palace, Polish Parliament, Senate and all ministries. The most important decisions are made here.

My first post

Hello guys!
If you don’t know, my name is Bartek. I live in a big city which is full of trees and smog – Warsaw.
I have two younger brothers who are sometimes annoying but we usually get along without any damage to health.
I think it will be a good idea to write about the things I do in my free time. Of course, I am a  typical student. Most often, after school lessons I just come back home and do my homework. But don't worry! It isn’t anything special and I won't write about this stuff. This blog will be much more interesting if  I describe my hobbies.
In my free time I play tennis and go hacking in the mountains. If there aren't  any mountains, a big forest is also OK. I live near Las Bielański, which is a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon. Do you know that forest walks can help reduce stress? They can also make your brain work better. That's why I go for a walk to the forest before tests. And it works!
